Amalgamated Locksmiths have been commercial locksmiths in Richmond since we began our mobile services in 1984. We’ve seen a lot of changes in that time, with the suburb becoming more and more gentrified: it is now more than ever a major hub of Melbourne’s restaurants, stores and cafes. Equally, the area is becoming a key growth spot for Melbourne’s commercial offices. This week, the Amalgamated Locksmiths blogging team look at some of the changes in Silicon Yarra, and what it all means for your commercial locksmiths.

Silicon Yarra

Salta Property Group (not to be confused with our own Salto Access Control System) have just purchased 24,000 square metres of Richmond for $51 million. They plan to turn the corner space, 471-479 Church St, into three office buildings.

Salta already own 30,000 square metres of offices in Richmond, above Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre, their joint venture with Vicinity Group.

These 54,000 square metres of office space are a part of Yarra Council’s focus on commercial growth. Yarra Mayor, Amanda Stone, said in September that the City was planning on 220,000 square metres of office space to be developed over the next 15 years.

Swathes of these commercial offices will be occupied by tech companies, a number of which have already moved in. Start-ups and tech companies such as REA Group, Uber, Carsales.com, MYOB, Seek.com and Tesla all have offices in Richmond, earning the suburb the nickname Silicon Yarra.

Amalgamated Locksmiths in Richmond

Over our 33 years, we have performed a number of commercial locksmith services along Smith St, Victoria Parade and Swan Street. As the suburb has changed, so too has its security needs. Some of the classics remain strong, stable security solutions — we still install deadbolts, deadlatches, safes and alarm systems — but as Richmond turns into Silicon Yarra, its security systems also become more tech-focused. Over the last few years, we have been combining the classic locksmith solutions with more electronic security systems for Richmond’s commercial offices and storefronts. Increasingly, Richmond’s commercial sector are interested in smartphone-compatible alarm systems, keyless entry, and wireless multi-user access control systems.

We work with a range of businesses, stores and offices in Richmond. We work with them to develop commercial security solutions that are right for them. Starting with a free on-site quote, our commercial locksmiths develop complete security solutions based on our clients’ needs and budget, whether they be small stores, franchises, offices or large companies.

Our commercial locksmiths provide our clients with every security solution they need, from the installation of new access control systems, alarms and electronic locks to the servicing of safes, updating of codes or replacement of keys.
