Previously, we have talked about how to secure your windows but today we want to tell you how to strengthen your front door security. In 2016, 1 in every 68 Victorian homes were burgled, and in our suburb of Collingwood, this number increased to 1 in every 65. Front doors are the main entry point for visitors to your home, welcome or otherwise, and so it is important to secure it against uninvited guests.

To secure your front door, we recommend the Lockwood 001Touch Keyless Digital Deadlatch or Deadbolt. The Lockwood 001Touch Keyless technology secures your home or business in more ways than one. Firstly, it removes the need for keys! Children or forgetful adults no longer need to worry about losing their keys with the Lockwood 001Touch. This also means that would-be invaders have a harder time breaking in because they won’t be able to locate your spare set (Read tips on where to hide your spare keys here).

Secondly, like the Cortex Digital Door Lock, the main user of the Lockwood 001Touch Keyless Deadbolt or Deadlatch can program up to 20 different key cards to be used with the system, or create different PINs for up to 20 different users. They can even limit the amount of time these PIN codes will last, ensuring that visitors to your home, be they guests, neighbours or workmen, only have entry for as long as you want them to.
Thirdly, programmers can also set the lock to one of three modes: secure, locking the door from both inside and out; safety, locking the door from the outside only, allow those indoors to leave freely; and passage, allowing visitors to come and go as they please.

The touch screen adds extra security too. Its cryptic code function confuses any onlookers, preventing them from spying your PIN. Having a screen in lieu of buttons also means that the most commonly used numbers won’t fade over time and stand out due to wear. It is also more weather-resistant than older models.
Unlike other keyless locks, the Lockwood 001Touch Keyless Digital Deadbolt and Deadlatch are battery-operated. 4 AA batteries will power your lock for up to 10,000 uses and the battery life can be checked on the display. Not having the locks fitted to your home’s power supply ensures that would-be intruders will not be able to access your home merely by shutting off its power. The Lockwood 001Touch is also connected to a back-up 9v battery, ensuring that if your batteries have run flat, you won’t be locked out of your home.

Using the same trusted bolt mechanism Lockwood have been using in Australia for the past 30 years, users can rest easy, secure in the fact that the tried and true protection Lockwood provides hasn’t changed.

The Lockwood Deadbolt is a more secure front door lock than a simple key-in-knob situation. A deadbolt has two locking mechanisms, which makes it a stronger lock and also means that it will take longer to pick. Thieves and intruders are less likely to spend a lot of time with deadbolted front doors as this increases their chances of getting caught, so not only are intruders less likely to successfully break in to a Lockwood deadbolted door, they are also less likely to try.
